Exact opposite actually. It happens way more with ground only, since you have to go threw mobs. With fyling you skip most of them and be done with what you have to do.

With ground some people seeing you are here will just wait you agro everything to go direct to the objective.

Extremely Lazy Minimalists:
These are the people who are so bothered by encountering mobs on the ground without having the ability to skip them via flying that they whine and complain about it on the forums. They see open-world as something that's in the way rather than part of the game. They want to skip as much content as possible to reach that point of "I have the best stuff in the game, so I'm going to complain that there's no content because I like skipping it as much as possible." When you point this point down to it's core, they're lazy, they're malcontent with contentment and hate feeling that they have to play the game in order to get things. The term "hurry up and wait" comes to mind when they complain about content, they rush through it, want as many shortcuts as possible implemented and then speedrun to collect their deadset rewards. They care only about the rewards and not the journey of questing or farming to obtain them.

I wish there was some kind of upvote feature because this perfectly describes them. This is pretty much the only reason why people want flying so much. It's all a bunch of self entitlement and laziness. And you're totally right, these are usually the people to complain about there being no content at the end of the game after skipping through 80% of it and it's just like if you are that uninterested in the game to skip so much content why bother playing it? They disregard the story, the lore, couldn't give a rat's ass for the environments or characters, NEVER read any of the quests and yet they still play this game. Why? Must be a fun game. These people just play this game for the loot and that's it. I've even ran into people in the past saying it themselves and they're the ones to say how the game sucks and how there's nothing to do, "there's no content". They want to show people how fucking awesome they are and have that feeling of superiority to fuel their digital ego. So when they have what they want there's nothing else to do but complain about it.

So, the artificial gate is suddenly fine? Last time I heard of this topic, anti-fliers were ok with the gate and pro-fliers were going apeshit.

sooo this now the "losing" side tries to sound like they "won" with their "OMG GUYS EVERYONE WOULD QUITE W/O FLYING SO GTFO!" - attitude.
Gating behind an ACM is the best solution, and the pro-fliers were TOTALLY against it.

Closing this for a couple of reasons:

1. The opening post asked about the history of the arguments for people who were against flying. That history exists if you're really interested. More there than you can imagine if you haven't seen it.

2. The thread is overly hostile, especially over a topic that has been argued out and resolved (by Blizzard) long ago. There isn't much point in continuing to toss insults at one another over this.

3. There's a possibility that the thread was created just to stir up the forum. That's pointless too.
