The War Within Alpha - Early Delves Preview
Delves are new solo world progression content introduced in The War Within. There are a few of them available on the Alpha, but they are in a very early state.

  • You enter a Delve by finding its fog wall. When you click it, a menu will pop up showing the contents of the Delve and rewards.
  • You can select the difficulty tier before entering.
  • Upon clicking enter, there is no loading screen. The wall simply disappears and allows you to enter.
  • To progress in the Delve, you must pay attention to the current task that the menu is asking you to complete.
  • Rare mobs and treasure chests can provide useful buffs such as damage boosts or immunity to damage for limited amounts of time.
  • Brann Bronzebeard accompanies you and levels up. You can choose to have him heal or DPS.
  • There is a meeting stone inside the Delve in case you need to make changes.
  • The current Delves end with a final boss that you defeat to open the treasure room.

Yes, probably. But what did you expect? We all knew it would be a light and easy feature for more casual players.

Seems like a cross between Zskera Vaults and MoP scenarios with a dash of the best parts of Torghast thrown in. Really interested to see how this scales for solo players.

Honestly excited about this. Fun simple thing to do with a friend if I'm not feeling like doing keys.

Doesn't matter what it was, you were just going to boost your post count bitching, whining and crying about it.

Mechanically, delves sound very solid. But will they be fun? That's all I need to know now. I'm sold on them, otherwise.

Yeah? And that is bad... how?
That is literally what players have been asking for.
    What did you expect?

I enjoyed scenarios, island expeditions, and the Zskera Vaults, so I might enjoy these. Hearing that you can increase the difficulty is also nice.

Bigger question is, if you will be able to get the heroic level gear solo or you will need bigger group for it? If the higher difficulties aren't soloable, it will kinda lose it's purpose - good progression for casual/solo players.

A group will def make it easier, but you will be able to reach them solo. Same way it was with torghast.

Seems interesting, I'm eager to check it out, hope its a fun pillar for the solos. I also very much hope different companions can be unlocked later down the line.

Bran can't be told to tank though?

If bigger group isn't required and it doesn't make you have any better rewards, just makes it easier, then it's fine.

yeah you can do it with 1-3 players, and more players does not equal more rewards, it will just make it easier based on the fact you have multiple people, and therefore multiple roles.

It's all about how the rewards function in detail - how do they stack up against other sources in quantity/quality and so on.

And I don't mean that in a negative way. It'll be good if this is not something people feel forced to grind daily/weekly just for power. That killed all previous systems of a similar kind. However, if the rewards aren't attractive in some way, this may also suffer the fate of scenarios which just became something no one cared about or ever did.

It'll be interesting to see if Blizz gets the balance right - enough gear to give casuals a reason to do this, but not enough to force non-casuals into doing content not meant for them.

Still unclear as of yet. I believe the stated intent for this was indeed a system that raiders/regular M+ers are expected to skip, but whether that'll end up true and to what extent and whether casuals will still like this or feel like they're being put into the ball pit to play while the grownups do the "real" game.

    Awesome, thanks.

I wonder, how is it gonna work with the rewards. Will you be able to get heroic level gear after after every Delve? Or is there gonna be a limit? There are gonna be 13 different Delves, so can you do every Delve once a week? Or maybe just 5 Delves, which are gonna rotate every week to get your 3 Vault slots? I don't know if they explained already somewhere or not.

It will def be a limit, but exact item levels and amounts you need to do each week will all be subject to change.

Still, it is awesome to see this. I always wanted a progression system where you can get some epic looking gear solo or just with some casual activities. I love raiding and I always managed to be in a guild, where we managed to do full heroic runs and even some first mythic bosses but now being able to get the same/similar gear from another PvE activity is so freeing to me. Although it's gonna take much longer time and luck to have a full set or something of course.

Ion said already that you can get epic end-game rewards from the Delves, so hopefully Myth track items will be available.

I believe they said that Tier 8 delves will give equivalent to Mythic+5 gear, and that's the cap for delves. So, pretty decent really. I think that's right around Heroic raid gear? Not sure, but I seem to remember hearing that at some point.

The limit on best gear from delves per week will be the number of treasure keys you acquire per week, which we don't know yet how they are acquired or how many you can get per week.
